On the Water in the Northwest in a Canoe or Kayak
Ten years ago I bought double Klepper Expedition folding kayak. I have been all over the Northwest in that boat, including Glacier Bay, Alaska, the Broken Group on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, through the San Juan Islands, and up and down the Willamette River here in Oregon. It is a great boat, but weighs in at 82 pounds without any gear.
Last July I purchased a 40 pound We-Noh-Na canoe made of kevlar…very light.
It works great for two, and that is the boat a friend and I used in June of 2007 to paddle 63 miles down the Willamette River.
Here is the Necky kayak I just got for solo paddles. It is very light, has a skeg, and handles well. This is looking south.
Today…a short paddle on a crisp, late Fall afternoon on the Willamette River, saw a large grain ship coming in with a tug at the stern and one on the starboard bow…quite a site!
