Please join me for the 4th annual Mt. Tabor Art Walk from 11 am to 5 pm Saturday & Sunday May 16-17, 2009. This is a great way to see the work of neighborhood artists and experience the beauty of the Mt. Tabor neighborhood in Spring. Be sure to come by my site (#20 on the map) at 2345 SE 58th Ave. I will be doing a printmaking demonstration and you can get a FREE example of my art.
HERE are locations where you can pick up maps, or you can download a PDF of the map HERE.
Two women artists from Orange County, in Southern California, were inspired to start The Nipple Project initially by the release of the IPEX bra by Victoria Secret. Advertisements for this bra espoused quite blatantly that it provides “maximum nipple coverage!” This bra epitomizes the eradication and androgenization of the nipple. They found this ironic in an era where breast augmentation is done in order to gain a “more feminine look.” So, through this project they set out to reclaim their natural femininity and counter this strange phenomenon.
They posted a “call to artists” to submit their “nipple” interpretations. Those contributions (about 200 altogether,) from women and men, were assembled and put on exhibit at the Orange County Center for Contemporaty Art in Santa Ana, California. The exhibit opened on June 5, and closes June 28.
I submitted two nipple creations, one constructed out of recycled tin, and the other carved from wood. Both are “larger” than lifesize.
Here are some views from the exhibit:
My contributions are shown in the center, on the white pedestal.
And up close:
These are about 7″ across, wood on left, and tin on right.
Along with 40 other artists, my home studio will be open Saturday and Sunday, May 17 & 18 from 11 AM until 5 PM. All are welcome to come see my creations. I will have new paintings and mixed-media constructions on exhibit and for sale. I will have an ongoing “hands-on” printmaking opportunity for anyone who wants to create their own art…and take it with you…for FREE! If you attend, you will also be able to enter the drawing for one of my pieces.
Get more information and see a preview of the art work on display at the home studios at the Mt. Tabor Art Walk Web site. You can also download a pdf map from there. I will also have maps available. I am location #20 on the map. Hope to see you!
I have my work on exhibit at the PosterGarden in NW Portland. There are nine of my pieces on view.
