Today: First Day of Fall

Published by Kirk under Archive

My garden is on the slightly downside of full. Tomatoes are still coming on, and I have made two great pots of spaghetti sauce…some eaten and some frozen for later use.

Here is a Sunflower that has decided to come up in the last week…a glorious example of Nature’s beauty.

Fall…today we put the canoe (a We-No-Nah kevlar Spirit II) into the Willamette River at Sellwood Park. Here is a photo looking north toward Portland.

And a closer view of Portland…My City!

And the BEST…a special view of one of Nature’s own…a Red Tail Hawk eating a squirrel it had just caught:

From the canoe we were about 20 feet from the Hawk, who was intent upon eating. On the return paddle south, we found this beauty still eating. Can’t say this is the BEST shot of a Red Tail, but have you ever seen a better Red Tail tail shot? We were thankful to have seen nature just being itself.

Gary Retires!

Published by Kirk under Archive

My friend and colleague, Gary Graves, from our work at the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory over a period of over eight years, did an “active” retirement today. The Lab sponsored a retirement party for Gary, and I was privileged to attend.

Gary is a diligent, knowledgeable, insightful, and conscientious provider of technical assistance and other support services to K-12 schools in the Northwest, and I have appreciated the opportunity to work with him over the years.

Here he is…Happy! garygravesretirementhappy.jpg

Here he is with a long-time co-worker, Felicia: gary-co-workerfelicia.jpg

He is an ardent fly-fisherman, and the cake the Lab provided shows both his Montana roots and his fishing interest.

I wish Gary the BEST in his Retimement
